I am one of those people who doesn’t handle the heat too well, in a way this has been blessing in life, I am always well hydrated, loaded with sun cream and stick to the shade. On the other hand, in the Summer months I am usually a sweaty mess; make up during the day is pretty much a no go, so I have to ensure that my pores aren’t clogged with sweat and London air so that I am at least mildly presentable.

As today is the hottest July 1st on record, I thought now would be as good a time as any to tell you my essentials for keeping cool (or a little below boiling).

My favourite choices for sunscreen can be found here.

Kiehl’s Hydro Plumping Re-texturising Serum Concentrate keeps skin hydrated and looking great, it also feels incredibly cool on the skin when applied in the morning and evening which is ideal in this weather.

I always keep a bottle of Aloe Vera lotion in the fridge, not only is it a lifesaver for sunburn but it also helps you cool down after a shower and has a very refreshing smell. You can buy it for around £5 in Boots and it lasts for ages.

When it comes to make up I keep it minimal as chances are it won’t stay on for long so I use a Nars Radiance Enhancing Primer with SPF which gives my skin a nice pearlescent glow and then Benefit’s The Porefessional which covers shine like an absolute boss.

I try not to vary my skincare routine too much as I don’t want to put my skin through too much change. I keep my hair up as much as possible and try and wear an airy shirt as well as the obvious sticking to the shade and drinking A LOT of water.

In this area, all tips are welcome so please feel free to leave them in the comments.

The skin is our biggest organ and it is no secret that I love looking after mine. I’ve written previously on the importance of SPF for protecting our skin and I here are a few of the products that I absolutely adore and use to keep my skin soft, clear and hydrated.

Face.

Kiehl’s Pineapple Papaya Facial Scrub is one of my all time favourite face cleansers, I use it every three days (when I don’t use this I use Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser). It is an amazing scrub, it exfoliates without being too harsh on the face and it smells delicious, I always enjoy using this product and my skin feels smooth afterwards.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream really does live up to it’s cult status, not only does it keep skin hydrated, I have used it in the past as a primer, on my lips, on my hands and it is wonderful. It has quite a thick consistency which I really prefer, it feels more like skin food. With SPF 15 it is also a great protectant.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate is an amazing product, I put this on before bed religiously and wake up with the softest most supple feeling skin, it is one of those products that I will use for the rest of my life. Not only does it make skin feel amazing and look younger, just three drops of this repairs skin using essential oils which are also very relaxing before bedtime.

Elemis Body Brush is relatively new to my routine however I have already seen the changes, my circulation is better and my skin is looking a lot better by using this everyday before getting in the shower, the benefits also help me feel more awake in the morning which is perfect when I’m feeling groggy.

Soap and Glory Flake Away Body Scrub is hands down the best scrub I have ever used, it is full of nutrients which enhance skin while exfoliating and skin looks and feels amazing after using this product. It smells divine and is pretty cheap, there really isn’t any excuse not to se this wonder-product.

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps is the brand’s signature product and it is no surprise, this moisturiser is nourishing, smoothing and smells bloody good, a little always goes a long way and there is nothing like getting out of the shower and putting this on. There are quite a few iterations of this cult product, their whipped soy butter is pretty amazing however the original is a product I will be using forever.

Everything else.

Egyptian Magic Cream is a multipurpose miracle balm which can be used to moisturise, soothe and heal, my favourite uses include relieving sun burn and wearing with gloves or socks overnight for completely moisturised hands and feet.

Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve is my favourite hand cream, I use it all day everyday and it keeps my hands in check year round including the coldest of winter days, it kees my skin hydrated and completely protecting.

Aveda Lip Saver truly saved my lips, it is the perfect lip balm, is it nourishing, healing, lasts for ages and has a fresh zesty aroma. It is the perfect medicine for chapped lips, also being non addictive, your lips won’t completely dry out if you don’t apply it religiously.

RMS Beauty Raw Coconut Cream is an absolute miracle. I know you may already be bored of hearing about coconut cream but this is my current favourite product, I am completely in love! I use this product to moisturise, cleanse and much more, my two favourite uses are make up removal (it revolutionised the way I take off eye make up) and as a mask in a hot bath (I apply liberally all over my face and let it sink in for 30 minutes). This product is all natural and will leave skin feeling and looking amazing.

These are just a few of my favourite products which is an ever evolving list, do you use any of these products or can you top them?

Next I am looking for a brightening moisturiser so any recommendations would be fabulous.

As a redhead with very pale skin, I have always had to be extra aware of the importance of SPF, yes I am one of those people who got sunburnt while skiing in the past.

While it is a common preconception that SPF is only needed when the sun is shining, it is important to protect your skin any time you are outside. This protection can prevent sun damage, ageing skin and even skin cancer.

Even if wearing sun cream everyday isn’t your thing, there are many things you can wear with SPF; lip balm, make up, moisturiser and eye cream. Before I leave the house each day I ensure that I’m wearing some form of sun protection and here are a few of my favourites.

From left to right:

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser- Illuminating Broad Spectrum SPF 20. Not only does this provide amazing coverage and last all day, it also has SPF ensuring year round protection.

Sol de Janeiro Posto Protect 30. This has got to be my all time favourite sun cream, it is an oil based spray with staying power, it also smells like starfruit which is delicious, it is out of stock everywhere so I can’t quite tell if it’s being discontinued but if you ever spot it then I would definitely recommend picking up a bottle or three.

Nars Pro Prime Optimising Primer SPF 15++. This is the perfect make up base, it ensures that your skin is luminous and it’s so lightweight that it feels as though you are putting face make up directly only the skin. It’s also perfect as you are already sun protected before make up.

Clarins Sun Care Oil Spray UVA/ UVB 30. This oil spray drys in an instant and is enriched with Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and Nyamplung Oil which leaves skin nourished and protected, it even works on hair.

Kiehl’s Activated Sun Protector for Face SPF 50. This lightweight formula is high protection sun screen, it is oil free which is perfect for the face. In Kiehl’s fashion it also keeps the skin throughly hydrated.

I’m always on the lookout for new sun protecting finds so let me know what your favourites are.

Today I spent 20 minutes bringing my parsley plant back to life after a few days of neglect, it is now back to it’s curly self and it left me with a fair few leaves which needed using today. Tuesdays in the Tabersham house is sea bass today and this evening was no different however with all of this parsley to use I wanted to try something new.

We usually have quinoa cooked with vegetable stock, either incorporated into a salad or as a stand alone side, looking through my kitchen I had shallots, mushrooms, garlic and lemon to work with so I decided to make mushroom quinoa using these ingredients. It didn’t take too long and it was mighty fine. This dish is über healthy and would go well with meat and fish.

You will need: One shallot, a clove of garlic, half a cup of quinoa, 450 ml hot vegetable stock, mushrooms (I like a lot but as many as you want), juice of half a lemon, sea salt, black pepper, olive oil and a bunch of parsley.

To make: Make quinoa as usual and leave with lid on for ten minutes • Chop shallot, mushrooms and parsley finely • On a low heat fry shallot and mushrooms and mince garlic • Season with salt and pepper and half the parsley • Stir in quinoa and mix it all together • Squeeze lemon into pan with mushrooms and quinoa • Serve and enjoy.
